The Shimmering Haven

The Shimmering Haven is a land of magic and myth made reality. A land where the Feywild has bled through into the Material Plane, and so have its strange inhabitants. Leading to a world of great wonders where impossibilities seem possible.

The Shimmering Haven is comprised of two main islands, Lanwin, the larger of the two, and Orleith, the smaller, with several smaller islands scattered about.

In times long past, the Shimmering Haven was a typical, some would say normal or boring land. Filled with kings and castles, brave heroes and monstrous villains. That all changed when a mage stumbled upon a portal to the Feywild, just outside a small farming hamlet. Ambitiously, he attempted to enlarge the passage, allowing for easier and larger scale transport in and out of the Feywild, but the volatile magics of the Feywild had a different idea. While the mage did succeed, it would be years before any learned the extent of his success.

When the portal was enlarged between the two planes, the wild magics of the Feywild ripped open all portals between the two planes, in the Shimmering Haven, allowing the Feywild and the Material Plane to bleed together.

Soon trade cities sprung up around the known portals, by guilds or merchant barons attempting to control the ebb and flow of goods in and out of the Feywild. These cities soon grew in power, but the Archfey had no care for this, seeing things like mortal wealth as a quaint pursuit by lesser beings. Although the lesser races of the Feywild were more then happy to set up trade, seeing a way to gain the power on the Material Plane that they couldn't in the Feywild.

As the centuries have passed, the various factions and courts have waged war for control of the Material Plane. This war has stayed covert, with the simple manipulation of kingdoms, but tensions are building as entire kingdoms are being twisted by Fey magics, both vibrant and life giving and dark and withering. Although, both sides have found a new enemy in the invading Vagnian Empire.

With all the wonder and whimsy the Feywild has brought, it is sometimes forgotten that dark things of pure nightmare have also been set loose. The sundering of the planer barrier has also stirred ancient things that should have remained slumbering. Only time will tell if they fall back asleep before showing themselves For the sake of all let's hope they do.
